Nicknamed "Yonge and Eg" or "Yonge and Eligible" after the professional demographic that settled into the neighbourhood in the 70's and 80's, this area was once a part of the old Town of North Toronto and has grown to become one of Toronto's hottest neighbourhoods. There has been a huge amount of development in recent years, concentrated around the Eglinton subway station, and with construction progressing on the Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown LRT, many developers have this area in their sights, looking to take advantage of the transportation improvements coming to this already vibrant midtown hub.

The area is home to a variety of both big-box and independant retail stores, fantastic cafes and restaurants, and the Yonge-Eglinton Centre, a four level shopping area and entry to Eglinton station on the Yonge subway line. Some of the neighbourhood's many restaurants and cafes that we love include Tabule, 7 Numbers, de Mello Palheta Coffee Roasters, La Boheme Cafe Patisserie, Istanbul Café, and there are many new restaurants that we can’t wait to try, such as Indonesian eatery Little Sister!

Many excellent public high schools dot the neighbourhood, and public parks in the area include Eglinton Park, Oriole Park and the Belt Line Railway – a 9 km long cycling and walking trail.

The neighbourhood features a mix of 2-storey semis, bungalows, townhouses, high rises, and classic 2-storey brick detached homes, the latter of which are located in the area known as Chaplin Estates. There are currently 25 condos projects in the planning stages or already under way in the neighbourhood, and that number is expected to grow as countless new residents are attracted to one of the most desirably urban and walkable areas of Toronto outside of the downtown core! Here's a look at some of our favourite condo projects being built or recently completed in the Yonge & Eglinton neighbourhood:

Minto30Roe is a really cool condo development on Roehampton Avenue, just north of Yonge & Eglinton, that’s currently in construction. Once finished, it will rise 34 stories and have a total of 397 units. This condo features stunning architecture, sophisticated interiors, and many exciting amenities.
Another great new development that you can get into in this fantastic neighbourhood is 2221 Yonge, located just south of Eglinton. This condo will rise 56 stories and feature a sleek modern design in tribute to Toronto’s celebrated modernist era. There are a variety of suites available, from one- to three-bedrooms, including some with dens.
Whitehaus Condos is another fantastic new development that’s currently in preconstruction in the neighbourhood. We especially like this one for its unique architecture and amenities! It will feature stunning, geometric architectural design, with 29 stories rising above a 3-storey podium, and parking beneath. There are a ton of really neat amenities in this project, with a games room, and artist studio, fitness centre, event kitchen, pet spa and more. In addition to sleekly designed 1, 2 and 3-bedroom suites which will offer light-filled open concept living spaces beneath 9 foot ceilings, there will also be beautifully designed townhomes.

This is a great neighbourhood to live in if you want to be close to all amenities, while being steps from the subway line for an easy commute downtown. With its great access to public transit, a thriving business core, and shopping galore, you can see why this neighbourhood remains one of the most sought-after areas in the city and a great place to live!
