Whether you've had to downsize for a move, or wanted to minimize your belongings or just make room for new ones, chances are that you've disposed of used furniture and household items at one point or another. But what if those items were to get a second life - and better yet, to help those in need build a new life for themselves?

Furniture Bank is a Toronto-based charity and social enterprise that facilitates the trasfer of gently-used furniture and household goods from the community, directly to the homes of families or individuals who have recently transitioned out of homelessness, women and children escaping abusive situations, and refugees & newcomers to Canada.

Since its inception in 1998, Furniture Bank has collected and provided over 300,000 items of furniture to over 60,000 people! In doing so, they have helped to create true homes out of empty spaces - and, beyond that, new hope for a better future for those who have benefited from their services.

How does it work?

Furniture Bank provides a pick-up service across the whole of the GTA. They service different areas throughout the week - go here to find out when their trucks will be in your area!

Their pickup service fees start at $99, with all proceeds going directly towards supporting their charity.

Since they are a registered charity (Charity #87253 1843 RR0001), you will receive a tax-deductible receipt for the value of your furniture and houseware donations.

When you use Furniture Bank, you are personally investing in someone's new beginning. A mother with children leaving abuse shelter, refugees starting over, a person recovering from a mental health crisis taking independent steps and more... Not having to choose between food and furnishings is what differenciates thriving from just surviving.

So the next time you are downsizing or looking to replace your gently-used furniture and housewares, please consider donating them to Furniture Bank so you can help a family build a Home!
